By now we have all heard the news, seen news topics or pics of the new Meta.com, or should we rather say, Facebook, the company which Mark Zuckerberg has renamed to Meta. Or should I rather say, most of the sheep have seen and heard the news.
Meta is short for Metaverse, as sort of connected virtual world which Zuckerberg and some other tech geeks have dreamed up, like many movies have shown in the past, where people communicate, interact and experience in a virtual world or virtual reality instead of the physical world.
It is obvious to have seen this coming for ages, as there have been many people trying virtual reality worlds and games, and speculating that the future will be virtual and not physical. Even old huge blockbuster movies like the Matrix showed us a glimpse of what such a world could look like, a sort of post-apocalyptic physical world, where machines run and rule the order of the day, and the humans that they live off of, only live in a false or virtual-reality in their minds, and do not actually live, feel, taste and experience the world physically.
The Irony
There are multiple ironies with the whole situation, however, the biggest two, are the cause of such a post-apocalyptic physical world, and the fact that despite our fears being raised through movies like that, we still move towards that very direction.
The fact that we become more online connected digitally, means we need more devices, more batteries, more wireless signals. All this means more machines to manufacture them, and more power stations and machines to power them. This in turn further strains the Eco-system which is already suffering from our fossil-fuel powered past decade. So, the very virtual world that we may be ‘wanting’ to currently move toward, may be causing the very environmental destroying events that will cause us to lose the physical world and HAVE to live in the virtual future.
We may fear a future like portrayed in the Matrix, yet through being more and more dependent and addicted to our social networks and online world through our devices, we are still slowly getting lured in, and moving towards such a future, willingly. Like sheep to a slaughter.
Two Worlds
I always predicted the future to have two world, one online and one physical. Well, the future is now and we already have that. We have millions of people not only spending their lives and money online, but also making their money online, they live and social media and the internet daily, and also work for those companies or for themselves in some or other freelance online job. Most of them have hardly been outside their homes, let alone their cities, states or countries the past two or more years. They see the world through Instagram and Facebook and other social media influencers sharing their own travels.
They buy their groceries, meat or fake-meat, or even vegan-only foods from the supermarket on the corner, following the latest fad-diet the read and saw on social media, because they heard it hurts the planet and animals harm the environment. The very environment they hardly know or see or experience anymore, and animals they do not even see or hear in reality.
Then there are the real workers. The people making the world actually turn. The farmers producing crops, meat and other foods to eat. The factory workers making the cars, machines, processed foods and containers they come in. Fuel industry workers supplying the fuels that power the cars, truck and generators. The truck drivers and couriers that transport all the goods to the shops and homes of everybody on earth. These are the people that are still living and experiencing the real world.
Ironically enough, these are also the healthier, happier and more contempt people. Unfortunately, it may also often be that they are the lower paid people. Without them, nobody can live, yet without the online people, the world will still carry on as it has for thousands of years, yet the world has be morphed to a world where the necessary people get paid less than the necessary people. In general that is. Many entrepreneurs, factory owners and farmers are much wealthier than the army of online remote working ants, but that is thanks to hard-work, production and smart-work.
Unbow
Join us, join the physical world as we Unbow to the unnecessary. As we carry on living, and I mean actually living, feeling, smelling, tasting, breathing, running and experiencing the actual incredible physical world we live in.
What does it involve to Unbow?
I don’t know fully yet, and I do not mean we need to scrap devices, the online economy and digital world as a whole. I will still figure out what Unbow fully involves, but I cannot do it alone and I need your help, knowledge and influence. Contact me through the contact page or comment below with ideas.
Let us save the physical world we live in, because a metaverse or digital-only world, will not be helping ADHD anytime soon, and I do not know about you, but I prefer our kids running around outside on the grass or playing in the sand on the beach rather than sitting in front of a screen for 18 hours a day and not talking or experiencing anything real.
